Buenos Aires

After about 20 hours in and around airplanes, we at last arrived in Buenos Aires. We checked in to our cozy little apartment on the seventh floor, then headed out for some lunch and found a nice place that baked their own bread. We spent the day strolling through the city, exploring interesting Graffitis, being awed by amazing architecture and crammed into the super busy subway. We also had dinner at a steak house called Madagascar (we should have gotten suspicious then) where I likely had the worst beef ribs of my life. I probably returned about 90% of the “meat”, which probably says enough. Kata’s Cesar salad was apparently the better choice… We’ll give Argentinian steak another try soon, let’s see!

Today we are taking the train up to Tigre along the Lujan river to explore the region a bit more closely and tomorrow we’ll head out towards Patagonia and will fly to the town of Trelew, just south of the nature reserve on the Peninsula Valdes where we are supposed to find penguins, seals and, if we are lucky, whales.

And off we are…

After a very relaxing day of packing, organizing the last few things, and cleaning up the apartment for our subtenant, we are finally on the way to the airport – feels good to be out, at last. Hopefully we haven’t forgotten anything essential… (Update: Katastrophy, Kata forget her spork, we are thinking about aborting the vacation…)

Our belongings for the next six weeks, on the picture nicely spread out on the bed, did indeed comfortably fit into our rucksacks, which is great! 😁

The first stop now takes us to Madrid, where we hopefully will depart again at around 23 o’clock towards Buenos Aires. I hope that my second long holiday of my life does not start with another 6-day stint in an airport!

Nerdy episode: After moving my server from the living room to the office at the last minute, it decided to just not boot anymore… With characteristically stoic calm and without swearing of any sort, I struggled with it for about 4 minutes of the 5 minutes ultimatum I had given the god damn thing, until it finally gave me a healthy beep and booted just fine. Problem was, I think, that the BIOS battery was empty, upon which the system time got reset which prompted it to ask me to press F1 which I of course couldn’t see without a screen connected. Anyways, system seems to be up and running so all users should be happy again 😉
