Among other things, the scientists unearthed the almost entirely preserved skeleton of a Titanosaurus, the largest known creature ever having walked our planet, weighing an astounding 77 metric tons (about 15 elephants). Its heart alone weighed around 250 kg 😳 Impressively, the skeleton was rebuild in life-size in an forsaken warehouse but unfortunately it could not be visited… However there is a BBC documentary featuring David Attenborough about the discovery and the rebuilding.

The museum presented an impressive selection of various prehistoric animals, among them a 12m long Gigantosaurus, sable tooth tigers and fossilized dinosaur eggs.

After the museum, we took our rental Nissan Micra (yep, it drives differently than my car…) some 140km south towards Punta Lombo where small nature reserve was waiting for us. The road was pretty rough with more than 40km on gravel. After arriving at the park, we got quite excited when we spotted the first Magellan penguin squatted just a meter next to the path and I took my time to portrait the little one from each angle. Little did we know that there were thousands of penguins around the corner (apparently more than 200.000 breed in the park). Then suddenly Kata spotted some Guanacos (the wild version of the Lama) in the distance, which soon started fighting with each other right next to us, amazing… As if this wasn’t enough, some Nandus (big flightless birds distantly related to ostriches and emus) calmly strolled across the Pampa. It was amazing to see so many different animals from such close distance and hardly managed to leave this paradise on Earth.

Today we got up early-ish (for vacationers) and first headed to the world-renowned palaeontological museum in Trelew, where one of the largest dinosaur fossil findings in the world was discovered in 2014.
